I was looking for an inexpensive and reliable economy car that I didn't have to finance. One local dealer had an '03 Honda Civic with 134,000 miles and an asking price of $6,500. I drove the car, liked it, and intended to buy it. All I needed was a check from my insurance company. A few days later, as I was driving by E Z Auto Sales, a red Civic caught my eye. I stopped to look it over and took it for a test drive. This one was an '01 model with 5 thousand fewer miles than the one I had previously driven. The clincher was that the asking price was only $4,500 - $2,000 less than the first one I drove! Sure, this one was 2 years older, but it was better equipped. And it's the mileage, not the model year that matters on older vehicles. I mentioned to the owner that the AC was not very cold. He agreed to repair it at no charge.
